In the latest home game at Pack Meadow, Coleshill controlled an inform AFC Rushden & Diamonds team from start to finish limiting there chances to an odd few that never really troubled Tyrese in the Coleshill goal and scoring 3 to secure the points.
Coleshill got off to a great start when, after 5 minutes, a Coleshill corner delivered into the 6 yard box cause confusion and after a few scuffed shots and attempted clearances, Ben Usher-Shipway was on hand to slot the ball home.
2 minutes later, Coleshill won the ball and played it out to Ben on the right wing. Getting to the edge of the Box, Ben looked for the far corner of the goal with a lovely placed shot, but the keeper managed to get a hand to it and deflect it for a corner.
Rushden then had their first real chance when a long through ball was put into the 6 yard box, but Tyrese dealt with it, punching clear. This seemed to be a plan Rushden tried a few times in the game thinking that Tyrese wouldn’t be able to cope with the attackers in the box, but he and his defenders came out the winner every time.
After 20 minutes Coleshill linked up again down the right hand side, with Dan Brookes, Ben Usher-Shipway and Daniel Gyasi playing the ball smoothly between the Rushden players. Sam Tye then won the ball back from Rushden, slotted it to Daniel who slipped it off to Shaq Leachman-Whittingham who scored the second goal, putting it just inside the post out of reach of the diving keeper.
The game then took a bit of a lull, with Rushden still trying to catch Tyrese out with looping balls into the 6 yard box, and Coleshill having shots that were slightly to high or wide.
As 90 minutes approached, Coleshill started to get more opportunities. A great half volley from Jack Hallahan just went over the bar, a first time shot by Jack Concannon hit the post, a corner to the back post saw Ben Usher-Shipman header bounce up and come back of the cross bar, then a slight scramble in the Rushden box saw Ross Evans, like against Cov Sphinx, (https://www.coleshilltownfc.com/latest-news/coleshill-scored-late-to-secure-all-3-points) slot home a left foot shot wide of the keeper just inside the post.
Coleshill manager Grant Jones said after the win.
“Credit to all 16 of our lads today, we did not give Rushden & Diamonds a sniff in the game and completely dominated a good side for 95 minutes. By far our most complete performance with this group of players to date. Our football was an absolute joy to watch and we looked a problem for our opponents today and they couldn’t live with us all over the pitch. We’ve had two games on tricky pitches with Sphinx and Stourbridge but today back at home I wanted the lads to show what they are capable of and carry on that style and way of play, I couldn’t ask anymore of them in that sense. We played high quality football from Tyrese to the lads on the top line and created chance after chance for majority of the game and I know Rushden will be happy with three in the end. This result can’t or shouldn’t be taken for granted because Michaels side are in good form over the last couple of months and are much improved under him, building bit by bit and he’s doing very well in a scrutinised role at such a massive football club. Huge plaudits to the goalkeeper and defence for a welcome clean sheet, midfield dominated all game and the forward boys were unplayable. We’re heading in the right direction for sure with this group. At no point will this group “be on the beach” because the season is still alive until the middle of May so there’s points to play for and cup final places to claim. Special mention to both sets of supporters today, atmosphere was good to see two good sides and we deserved our win”.
